The philosophy of Forest Schools is to encourage and inspire individuals through an innovative, long term, educational approach to outdoor play and learning in a woodland environment. The programme combines practical skills and activities with techniques to encourage independence and raise self-confidence and self-esteem. Its cross-curricular approach incorporates Maths, English, Design and Technology, Science, Music and Art.

Experiences include using tools to make things from wood; using natural materials to make shelters and produce art work; lighting a fire with flint and steel and cooking healthy campfire food; and exploring the habitat through mini-beast safaris and sensory games.
